My first book

Hi, I'm Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff. I recently finished writing my first novel "Am I Not A Man? The Dred Scott Story". I'm very excited to be able to share this inspirational story with all of you. The novel follows the life of the slave Dred Scott that was given his freedom and then had it swiftly taken away again. The book hits shelves on November 3rd and is currently available for pre-order from amazon.com.

  1. Mark;

    A very hardy congratulations on the release of your new book, "Am I Not a Man...." I met you at the kickoff dinner for the Dred Scott Heritage Foundation, where you saw a preview trailer for our forthcoming documentary, "The Price of Power: Dred & Harriet Scott. Bruce and I now have about 80 hours of film in the can, and I am a little over 100 pages into the third draft of the outline. We have four or five interviews to shoot, some re-enactment stuff, and a few more stills to collect, then we begin assembly. Our release date still looks to be late 2010. We are also picking up sidework, doing videos for attorneys, artists, authors, etc. who want to add this element to their websites.

    I want to also take a moment to commend you for your courage in undertaking a run for the Senate this coming year. You are taking your experience as Attorney General to the floor with this race. We need men like you to stand in the gap. Let Bruce and me know if there is anything we can do to help either the book or the campaign. I look forward to the opportunity to read the book.

    Be blessed,
